How Do We Fight Radicalism by Creating Hope ?

Brief

Four hope-makers of the Arab World – who have played a role in creating better and positive societies through humanitarian projects and voluntary work, recounted their experiences at the 2019 edition of the World Government Summit. Extremism and terrorist ideologies generally grow in societies overwhelmed with hopelessness, frustration and depression. A survey conducted among Arab youth in more than sixteen countries shows that 55% of young people feel frustrated, and do not see any window of hope, believing that their region is heading towards the worst. Such an atmosphere is conducive to despair, offering fertile soil for the spread of terrorism, which has become a threat to global security. However, the stories of Iraqi Hisham Al Zahabi, Kuwaiti Maali Alasousi, Sudan’s Faris Ali Al Nour and Egypt’s Mahmoud Wahid offer a beacon of hope. These remarkable human experiences represent bright models for other young people in the Arab World to follow for the benefit of their countries.
